ROUND 8 and Season Grand Final!!!

Well, I do not know about you, but what an evening of excitment and nail biting fencing that was!!!

Congratulations to all our winners last night and of course throughout this season!!!

Round 8 team battle was won by Sultan Qinan of Escorts Lounge Elite, defended bravely by Hope Coakes of Kilt by Antiquity

The Round 8 final was a battle between Sultan Qinan and Gary Kumaki, a very close and exciting match!!! Congratulations to Gary!!!!!!

The Grand team battle, which was a selection of the winning teams from this season. The team captains put forward representatives of their finest and eight players stepped up to the tracks!! Sultan and Joyce each won a semi final, so we didn't need to play the final, as the Escorts won!
Praise indeed must go to Acru Joliat for his 4 consectutive wins during the festivities - he was awarded $L5000 for his noble task!!

Round 8 - Rankings - FINAL - CORRECTION

****** For the sake of correctness, the scores have been updated. Sissy and Joyce's notecard was lost in mail, and was not in before the deadline. This was due to a misunderstanding, and - as the match was played within the time limit, we have chosen to accept the score as valid. The correction will have no impact on the 8 finalists, or the teams qualified for team battle. However, Sissy will move ahead one place in ranking.*********

Yay-yay!!!! The finalists are ready, based on following calculations:
  1. Sum of scores (averages until all games are played); if equal, then:
  2. Number of wins; if equal, then:
  3. Win margin

We are sorry to report that Zephyr and Johan had to withdraw.

  1. Tyr Akina (4.8 points)

      Draw for Round 7!

We have a cute, little draw for Round 7. As you can see here, we will only have 6 games each. Which means each of them will be even more important. Because of this, we would like to remind you how ranking is calculated:
      1. Actual score from games
        but if this is equal,
      2. Number of wins
but if this is the same too,
      3. Average win margin

The scores and ranking will also be posted from the first game. We will try to keep the information as up-to-date as possible, but will promise to make at least one daily update.

Remember to hand in your game scores* before 6 PM on Saturday, May 24th.

Finals between the 8 best players will be held on Sunday, May 25th.

      FINAL Round 6!

Congratulations to Gary Kumaki and Escorts Lounge Elite!

Mother's Day, holiday weekend in Europe and new sims being delivered aside, Sunday's final turned out to be the most efficient tournament ever held on the grid!  After two weeks of qualification games, this round was nicely wrapped up in 1.5 hrs of suspense! Our brave fencers did what they could to win, but in the end Gary proved to be the best fencer - at least in this round.
      1. Gary Kumaki, Escorts Lounge Elite
      2. Tamil Cerveau, Team Vaux
      3. Brook Yifu, Team Vaux and Aries Oh, Heart of Dragons
Escorts Lounge Elite beat Team Vaux in the Team Battle as well!

PS! This final also showed that even if you don't make the cut, I might be worthwhile turning up for the final. We had 2 forfeits on the day - which meant we had to go down to player #10 in the qualifying round!

      ROUND 5 results

Could all results regarding matches be sent to Aries Oh. Many thanks!!!!!!!!!!

      ROUND 5 - Draw!

Wow - nice turnout this round! More than 24 eager players! We don't like turning people away - so remember to register early.

Here is the draw - 10 games before Saturday afternoon.

ROUND 5 - details to note

Good day to you fellow En Garde Champions league players!!

As the registration for ROUND 5 draws to a close (still a few hours left if you have not entered yet) we thought it would be good to point out a few things with regard to playing your matches.

As before, we will be posting a link to the table of the draw and you can go there and create your own notecard for your matches. This seemed to work well last round and is much more efficient.

With regard to the deadline for matches to be played, this will be 6pm slt on Saturday 26th April. Please remember that this is your league and the matches being played within this time frame is your responsibility. Again as we are a slightly shorter session, please aim to arrange and play matches earlier in the week (even I managed to do this last round!!??) So please do try and schedule your games early. Any matches not played will be reviewed by the committee.

The final will run as an eight player event. We felt the four player final was ace and nice that so many of you turned out to support your peers. Eight finalists will however make this more of a fun and engaging happening, and at the same time not monopolizing on your SL Sunday. We hope that changing the number of players in the final will mean we can have this regular event without us all having to give up several hours in our weekends to do so. We appreciate that everyone has a first life and therefore we need to find a number that works for the collective!! This also shows how important the qualifying matches are!!

The final will be held at 11am slt in Heart of Dragons on 27th April. This will be the regular venue for the finals. Many thanks to the game/sim owners who have previously hosted the finals. The final will be played as single elimination - and the team game will be too!!! The seeding is done by random draw on a tournament board.

That is all for now folks, the draw for preliminary matches will be posted by 10am slt today.......

      Be well and much fun!

      Thursday, April 17, 2008

ROUND 5... ready or not here we come!!!!!!!!!!!

So a few changes afoot in the committee, while we get those established, lets get on with registration for round 5. Please submit a notecard to Juls Rosca with fee of L$100. Closing date for registration will be Saturday 19th April 9am slt.

Details regarding the rest of the round to follow!!!!

      Be well

      Sunday, April 13, 2008

      ROUND 4 is over.................phew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS SULTAN!! and HEART OF DRAGONS - SERPENTINO!!
Well I do not know about the rest of you, but that one was pretty hectic. Plenty of teething problems in this first round of the season. We had a few instances of "role swapping" within the committee as some people just had too many other committments. So we would like to thank those of you for sticking with us through it so far!! We are just human (not actual pixels) and unfortunately communicating is difficult for many reasons!? Anyway, we understand that there need to be more concrete methods and timeframes, so this will be done!!!!!!!
Feedback is much appreciated and is the only way we can really know what you would like for the league. It is also a great way for everyone to see what the majority would like to happen in the league and not just have the committee make those decisions, or appear to do so. Before the next round there will be a set of rules drawn up to account for what we have learnt and heard from all of you.
There will be information on the next round as soon as we get a few things in place!!!
      Be well

Final for ROUND 4 - players!!!!!!!!!!

For this round's final we will be watching the four top players from the qualifying matches!!!! Congratulations to all who took part so far and please come along to the final and support your peers!!!

Sophia Debevec - Escorts Lounge Elite - 40pts

Joycelyn Liotta - Escorts Lounge Elite - 37pts

Sultan Qinan - Escorts Lounge Elite - 36pts

Serpentino Eel - Heart of Dragons - 36pts

Really well done to the four finalists and lets hope we have a crackin' good few games at the amazing venue created by Sophia Debevec!!

The team game will be between Escorts Lounge Elite and Heart of Dragons - players to be confirmed by team captain.

Final held at Deliliah and in-world notice will have LM - will commence at 11am slt
      *
p.s. Aries is better at all the techie bits and percentages and we will have more details later!!!

      1. Sophia Debevec - 30 p
      2. Acru Joliat - 29 p/5 wins
      3. Tamil Cerveau - 29 p/4 wins

We draw the line at 4 players as previously announced!

ROUND 4 - Table of opponents

PLEASE NOTE THE LIST OF PLAYERS FULL NAMES IN POST BELOW THIS ONE!!!!!

A few differences to note this season:

1 - We will no longer be typing out your matches on a personal notecard. Please follow link to table of opponents.

2 - This round will be a very short one (6 days to play games) We realise this will put some of you under pressure and therefore cannot emphasis enough to schedule your games with ALL opponents as early as possible. Do not do what I do and leave them all to the last two days!!!!!!

3 - The final will be held in Escorts Lounge, by our gracious hosts Sophia and Alissa. LM will follow, Sunday 13th April 11am slt.

4 - Please remember to send outcome of games played to Brook Yifu on a notecard. Include name of players, venue, time and outcome.

Any problems queries or compliments, please use blog comments in the first instance, and if we just are not fast enough at responding then please IM!!!!!!! We would like the blog to be the main forum for discussion regarding the league as this allows all to contribute!!!

      Be well!!

      Fencing anthem????

I do not know how you all feel, but I think it is time we had a theme tune!!!!!! An anthem we can all have a go at when the going gets tough. The choice of this song should be made by the community!! So let us have your suggestions posted as comments. The rousing song below was discovered by Heart of Dragons Team Queen and league founder Aries Oh. Anyone willing to sing it on voice at next final???

The Fencer's Song(to the tune of "The Lumberjack Song" by Monty Python)

      I'm a fencer and I'm okay
I attack all night and retreat all day
      I wear a mask, a leather glove
      A jacket and lamé
      In my dreams, I'm d'Artagnon
      The hero of the day

      He's a fencer and he's okay
He attacks all night and retreats all day
He wears a mask, a leather glove
A jacket and laméIn his dreams, he's d'Artagnon
      The hero of the day

      I'm a fencer and I'm okay
I feint all night and deceive all day
I parry four and circle six
      I have a master plan
      To be the greatest fencer
      To come from Salle Duran

      He's a fencer and he's okay
He feints all night and deceives all day
He parries four and circles six
      He has a master plan
      To be the greatest fencer
      To come from Salle Duran

      I'm a fencer and I'm okay
I lunge all night and ache all day
My knees are shot, my feet are numb
      In traction I should be
Bear the pain to get the gain
      Endorphins are the key

      He's a fencer and he's okay
He lunges all night and aches all day
His knees are shot, his feet are numb
      In traction he should be
      His doctors think he's crazy

      And frankly, so do we!

      ROUND 4

Here it is folks!!! The moment you have all been waiting for with bated breath I am sure!!!!!! (?)
Spring break is over and it is time to draw your weapon and get those steels out to sharpen them!!

A few changes this season due to feedback from league members and evolution! We will no longer be having tedious 16 player finals which take up a huge chunk of time for us all. This season will be based on the performance in the preliminary rounds and a final will be played between the four best players based on those results. We will still be having the team final, but this also will be based on the preliminary rounds.

All registration and results will now be directed to Brook Yifu and any queries regarding the league and any aspect of the management of same will be directed to Aries Oh, Brook Yifu, Juls Rosca or Tyr Akina.

Registration and L$100 to Brook Yifu please - will close at 4pm slt Saturday 5 April and final will be held at Escorts Lounge on Sunday 13 April at 11am slt.

Also of note is the addition of the "Instant En Garde" created for the craic when we all fancy a flutter!!!!!! Check it out in groups for details.

Looking forward to a great season!!!!!

      Friday, February 22, 2008

      Better late than never....?

A little later than usual - but finally the draw for the 3rd round is ready! Due to this delay, we will only play 8 games in the qualification round. As always: Try to schedule all your matches now - we are spread all around the world and time differences are working against us when finding possible time slots for that exciting game of ours. (We really don't want to deem a game 5-0. We want the finals to reflect real results!)

From this round the final game will no longer be done as a "best of 3". From now on, there will only be one game deciding the winner of the finals in each round.

So - "En Garde!", my friends! Draw your epees and start fighting your way to the finals of round 3:
Time: Sunday, March 2nd, noon SLT
      Place: Antiquity
